Sending Dispute letters to

Credit bureaus 

Use this sample to draft a letter disputing errors on your credit report.

  • Clearly identify each item in your report you dispute.

  • Explain why you dispute the information, and request that it be removed or corrected.

  • Enclose a copy of your report with the items in question circled.

  • Send your letter by certified mail, “return receipt requested,” so you can document what the credit reporting company received.

  • Include copies (not originals) of the applicable enclosures.

  • Save copies for your files.

  • Send to each of the credit bureaus at the addresses listed below.
